Day 1: 100% Pure New Zealand
Activity 1: Go to the Tourism New Zealand website and click on the ‘Facts - New Zealand People’ tab. Read about the people of New Zealand and then choose three interesting facts to post on your blog. The facts must be written in your own words. Do not simply copy and paste the facts from the website☺.
Fact #1
Maori Voyagers voyaged across the Pacific Ocean more than 100 years ago, somehow they became the first citizens to stand on a undiscovered place called New Zealand. This is the specific reason why Maori culture is the main identity of New Zealand.
Fact #2
The main reason why people come to New Zealand is because of the love of New Zealand's great outdoors. The love of New Zealand's calm water and beautiful scenery is why there are people arriving at New Zealand nearly every single day! About 15% of New Zealand citizens have there very own boat for fishing seen as there are rarely any polluted beaches.
Fact #3
New Zealand is famous for its clever people and their inventions like bungy jumping, the fastest motorcycle, the electric fence etc. But these weren't created at a fancy lab with fancy factories and robots, believe it or not, these inventions were created in a backyard which is one reason why these unbelievably amazing inventions are famous.
Activity 2: Your tour of New Zealand is going to start right here in Auckland. Watch the Tourist video for Auckland to learn about the awesome things that you can see and do in the city. Once you’ve finished, choose your favourite five activities from the video and list them on your blog.
1. Rainbows End
2. Sky Tower
3. Auckland Museum
4. Kelly Tarltons
5. Piha beach
Bonus Activity: Now it’s time to start your tour! Curious Kiwi decides to start by taking you on a short tour through downtown Auckland. You stop at the Sky Tower, the tallest building in all of New Zealand. When you look up, you see a huge New Zealand flag on the top of the tower. This flag was created back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!
Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.
For this activity, it is your turn to design a new flag. Use any drawing programme that you wish. I would recommend the Flag Designer website. It allows you to create a flag in three easy steps. When you are done, take a screenshot of your flag and post it on your blog. Here is an example:
My Flag: This flag shows the symbols of New Zealand it also shows the kiwi and the reason for that is because kiwis are now extinct and to remember them I put it into this flag so everyone around the world can remember them as well. (Made in Google Drawings)
Welcome to the Winter Learning Journey programme, Shivay! It is so great to have you blogging with us this year! I am very impressed by the quality and quantity of the work that you have done so far.
ReplyDeleteIn particular, I am really impressed by the flag that you made. I like the fact that you included the kiwi bird (a national icon that is going extinct. We do still have a few kiwi birds around New Zealand but they are decreasing in number all of the time). I also like that you added the fern, the NZ letters and a koru that symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace.
I hope that you will continue to blog with us and to post such informative and interesting blogs. I can see that you've already completed Day #2 as well so I will promise to read it and post comments very soon.
In the meantime, I hope that you and your family are having a lovely time together over the term break.
Cheers!
Rachel
