Have you ever been to Waiheke Island

On Monday, the second week of the holidays, it was ANZAC day. ANZAC day is a day to remember the soldiers that were in World War One. We also wear poppies to remember the soldiers. On ANZAC day, we’d planned to go to Waiheke island on a  Fullers ferry. The ferries are, fast and they have  four levels. My sister and I woke up really early because we were very excited to go to explore the beautiful and famous Waiheke Island.

We checked to see if  mum and dad  were awake. I said, “Happy ANZAC day, Mum!”. Later that morning, my dad woke up and we said happy ANZAC day to him as well. We quickly got ready or else we might be late catching the train which takes us to Britomart (the Auckland train station). Close by is where we will get on the ferry to Waiheke.

When we got ready, we waited for our mom and dad to get ready, so we played on our tablet for a little. I found a way to do magic that looks real but it only shows on the tablet. My sister recorded by doing fake magic, I edited the video and it looked like I had made my sister disappear!

Later, my mom and dad said that they were ready.  We went to the car the and drove to the train station .My dad got three tickets for my mum, sister and I. He only got three tickets because he had a AT Hop Card which allowed him to go into the train without tickets and it allowed him to go on anything that supports AT Hop Cards.

While we were on the train, there was a mental women who sat on the opposite side from us. She was so excited ( as if it was the first time she had ever been on a train). She screamed and bounced on her seat, everyone looked at her when she screamed because it was very annoying and disturbing.

At Britomart, the station was so big, it had so much colourful lights on the sides of the wall opposite. It was not my first time at Britomart, but it had been quite a long time since I’d been there. Our tickets were checked, and the security gate opened and let us out of the station.  Outside we saw a sign that said Ferries on it and it was pointing to the left.

We went to the place where the sign was pointing, when we reached the place, there were a lot of boats, ferries and there was a huge cruise ship that had so much people on it like it was a hotel! We saw the ferry that we were going on, it was a white ferry with three colours on the sides, the colours were, blue, red and yellow. It also had the Fullers logo printed on it.

I was so excited about going on to the ferry, even though I had been on it once  before. My first time  was in 2013 when we were in Fiji. My dad bought three tickets again because my dad is going to use his AT Hop Card for the ferry because the ferry supports AT Hop Cards.

When we went inside the Fullers ferry, there was a person that checks tickets and AT Hop Cards. We went inside the ferry and we saw lots of stairs that goes to different floors. My dad wanted to go on the top floor, so we went to the top floor. The top floor was cool because it had lots of chairs so we can sit on while we travel and there was no roof, the thing I liked about the ferry was that they sell chocolate and I love chocolate, it was not any kind of chocolate, it was the Whittakers chocolate bar which was the slim version.

My dad said that we can eat the chocolate when we come back to the ferry after Waiheke, I said ok. Later, there was a loud noise that sounds like a ship when it launches. I shivered when the noise suddenly came, but I laughed at the same time. The captain said that the ferry is going to start moving.

The ferry was quite fast, while we were on the ferry, I saw Devonport, it is an island which is a little bit smaller than Waiheke Island. The ferry stopped at Devonport to pickup more passengers. After that the ferry started to move again and my dad went downstairs to get sugarless coffee. Yuck! I hate sugarless coffee, it is really bitter, but my dad loves sugarless coffee.

The ferry ride was for one hour, soon I saw a glimpse of Waiheke Island, the island looks really cool. Later, the boat stopped and it was parked by a wobbly bridge which seemed like it was concrete floating on water. I heard a ringtone which is just like my mum’s phone ringtone, my mom checked her phone and she saw a message that said that her uncle (which is my grandpa) passed away in Fiji.

It also said that we can’t eat meat nor go on trips because that is our tradition when someone pasts away. I was quite sad that my grandpa passed away even though I never saw him or talked to him before, my dad said that we can just go on the bus and have some food.

We were waiting for the bus to come so we can go to a pizzeria to have some cheese pizza and macaroni and cheese. Mmmm, I love macaroni and cheese, it is my favourite. After thirty minutes, we saw the bus, the bus looked kind of like the Fullers ferry.

We were in the bus for fifteen minutes, we went to the end of Waiheke island, at the end of Waiheke island.

Later on, we saw the pizzeria, it was really fancy, it had a bar and it had a really amazing view of the ocean. My dad buyed some two pizzas and one macaroni and cheese. The macaroni and cheese looked so yummy.

After that I ate all the macaroni and cheese and my mum, dad and my sister ate all the pizza. Next we went to the bus stop and we waited, it took thirty minutes for the bus to come. After thirty minutes, the bus came, we were so excited to go back on the ferry. We quickly went on the bus and it took us to the Waiheke bus company, I was confused of why we were at the bus company. The reason why we were at the bus company because the bus driver had swapped with another bus driver, then the bus ride continued.

Fifteen minutes later, the bus arrived at the place where the ferries were. The place was filled with lots of people waiting for the ferry, we saw the ferry coming and I screamed with joy because I was excited to go back home.

We went into the ferry and we sat at the very back, it was fun at Waiheke but we had to go home because my grandpa passed away.
I enjoyed going to Waiheke island, I hope we come back and we can have fun.
