Have you ever visited the beautiful, Botanic Gardens?

Botanic Gardens

A week ago, our whole school got an opportunity to go to the Botanic Gardens in Auckland.

We explored the garden referred to as  ‘Edibles’. The garden had lots of healthy fruit and vegetables, there were  also some trees that has fruit and vegetables that we didn’t know about. The edibles are located on the opposite side of the cafe.

Our Botanic garden teacher taught us how to make an organic spray that keeps all the foes away from our plants.   The word foes, in this case, represents insects that eat plants.  The spray we made  is not like the other ones that can be bought from the garden centre that have bad chemicals in them to kill and keep  the bugs away.  These chemical sprays  can also damage other plants and friendly bugs.  The organic spray that we made is a good spray because we can just pick the vegetables and fruits and cook and eat it after washing it of course, but because it is organic, it does not hurt friendly bugs or threaten other plants.

We wandered through a jungle like garden where we saw  Harakeke (a native flax used for weaving items including piu piu and food baskets.)  We learnt about the insects and some of the trees in the jungle.

I highly recommend visiting the Botanic Gardens, it is really beautiful and there are lots of rare plants from around the world and from New Zealand. The gardens cover such a huge area, it was impossible for us to see everything they have there in one visit.
