Pollution is caused by the dumping of rubbish, factory smoke and the smoke that comes from cars. Environmental scientists test contaminated water too, if there are less cockles and flounders in the sea, that is a sign that the water is contaminated. They gather data from the sea creatures, it is another way of testing the quality of the water if it is polluted.
