Winter Learning Journey Week 1 Day 7

#KeepNewZealandBeautiful

Activity 1:
Three things to keep New Zealand Beautiful:
1. Pick up any rubbish you see and put it in the bin even when it is someone elses rubbish.
2. Other than rubbish, pick up any other things on the ground that makes the neighborhood look bad.
3. Replace plants if it gets rotten especially trees because trees can fall down if it is rotten and not just your neighborhood, it can damage other neighborhoods.

Activity 2:
I find reading books relaxing because it takes away all distractions and stress and it takes me to a place of peace and calm.

Bonus Activity:
In this incredible journey, I have learnt alot about New Zealand and about it's history! I was very surprised that New Zealand were the ones who made incredible inventions like bungy jumping in their very own backyard! I liked that I got to go all around New Zealand and learn about the great activities and cool things that are happening at the South Island and the North Island.

Native Aotearoa

Activity 1:
My Poem:
I have arrived at a land!
I hope there is sand!
I am pretty excited to step on this undiscovered place,

Could there be creatures?
Or maybe other features?
I don't care what there is,
Because I am the first to reach this place!

Three favourite events:

1. I really liked the Matariki Ritual, it is when people mark the beggining of Matariki, tell stories, celebrate life and remember those who have died last year.
2. Second of all, I really enjoyed watching the Kapa haka, elders from around the country are all welcomed to the the kapa haka which is the final to the festival.
3. Last of all, I enjoyed watching the Maori and non Maori discuss about how the world is devoloped into different cultures.

Winter Learning Journey Week 1 Day 5

One Step At A Time

Activity 1:
My story:

When I saw the tree I went to take a closer look to see the sophisticated designed tree, when I turned around, everyone except me has left! I'd call there names but I thought that would be a little dangerous seen as there might be strangers in the forest who might kidnap me! Just me and Sophie. (The tree is named Sophie) It has been nearly thirty minutes and nobody has come for me, but this time I tried calling their names because the forest seemed like there was nobody in there so I thought I should just call for my friends so I did. It didn't work out as I thought it would but atleast I tried, "How far could they be?" I thought to myself, then I remembered that I saw a map next to a tree. I tried my best to locate the tree, but I had no luck, I had forgotten where the map is.

One hour later, I heard giggling somewhere near me. I thought it was some strangers laughing at something but it nearly sounded like my friend's laugh. I followed the laugh, getting closer and closer and, it was just a laughing budgee. "Ugg!" I said to myself, suddenly, a hand touched my shoulder and that scared me so much that I waked my hand on to the face of that person. "Ow!" said one of the friends, when I saw the face of the person it was one of my friends trying to tell me that they have found me. I felt so bad for hurting her but it was an accident, I finally found my friends!

Activity 2:
1.Name of the person:
Edmund Hillary
Where he was born:
Auckland, New Zealand
What made him famous:
He is famous because he was the first ever person to climb Mt. Everest, he is also famous because he built many schools and kindergartens in Nepal to help the children and familys which made him have his picture on the New Zealand five dollar note.
Fact #1 - Edmund Studied at Auckland Grammer School and Auckland University
Fact #2 - He wasn't just the first person to summet Everest, he also was the first to go to both North and South pole.

Bonus Activity:
I would love to cycle at at Otago Rail Trail seen as I love to do long cycles with my family and friends I would love to see the beautiful scenery while I ride so I think I will love it!

Winter Learning Journey Week 1 Day 4

Swimming With Sharks

Activity 1:
The people got buckets of water and kept the whales hydrated while others placed towels on them which is another way to keep them hydrated. While this was happening, another group of people pushed and pulled the whales back into the water.

Activity 2:
Whale rider: This movie is about a maori girl called Paikia who fights to reach her destiny which her grandfather does not want to recognise her as.

I rate this movie a 4/5

Bonus Activity:
I think fishing in Farewell Spit should be banned because as I have learnt, the hector dolphins are getting killed every year by the nets of fishermen but it doesn't just kill the dolphins, it kills other marine life as well so I think in order to save our marine life, we should ban fishing at farewell spit.

Winter Learning Journey Week 1 Day 3

Wild Eyes

Activity 1
I have chosen the Red-crowned Kakariki: The Red-crowned kakariki is a native bird to New Zealand it is called the Red-crowned Kakariki because kakariki in Maori means green and the red crowned stands for the bird's red head.
Image result for Red-crowned Kakariki

Activity 2
I think New Zealand should be predator free but I don't agree with killing them, instead I think that they should just take them away.

Reason 1: Possums are destroying our trees, it ruins the scenery and the beauty of the trees.
Reason 2: Napier is a very beatiful place and I think it has to stay beautiful by those possums taken away.
Reason 3: If those trees get damaged it can effect other things around it.

Bonus Activity:
My Moa discovery!
Wow I just found these footsteps of a big bird outisde of my hotel!

Winter Learning Journey Week 1 Day 1

Day 1: 100% Pure New Zealand

Activity 1:  Go to the Tourism New Zealand website and click on the ‘Facts - New Zealand People’ tab. Read about the people of New Zealand and then choose three interesting facts to post on your blog. The facts must be written in your own words. Do not simply copy and paste the facts from the website☺.
Fact #1
Maori Voyagers voyaged across the Pacific Ocean more than 100 years ago, somehow they became the first citizens to stand on a undiscovered place called New Zealand. This is the specific reason why Maori culture is the main identity of New Zealand.

Fact #2
The main reason why people come to New Zealand is because of the love of New Zealand's great outdoors. The love of New Zealand's calm water and beautiful scenery is why there are people arriving at New Zealand nearly every single day! About 15% of New Zealand citizens have there very own boat for fishing seen as there are rarely any polluted beaches.

Fact #3
New Zealand is famous for its clever people and their inventions like bungy jumping, the fastest motorcycle, the electric fence etc. But these weren't created at a fancy lab with fancy factories and robots, believe it or not, these inventions were created in a backyard which is one reason why these unbelievably amazing inventions are famous.

Activity 2: Your tour of New Zealand is going to start right here in Auckland. Watch the Tourist video for Auckland to learn about the awesome things that you can see and do in the city. Once you’ve finished, choose your favourite five activities from the video and list them on your blog.

1. Rainbows End
2. Sky Tower
3. Auckland Museum
4. Kelly Tarltons
5. Piha beach

Bonus Activity: Now it’s time to start your tour! Curious Kiwi decides to start by taking you on a short tour through downtown Auckland. You stop at the Sky Tower, the tallest building in all of New Zealand. When you look up, you see a huge New Zealand flag on the top of the tower. This flag was created back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!

Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.
For this activity, it is your turn to design a new flag. Use any drawing programme that you wish. I would recommend the Flag Designer website. It allows you to create a flag in three easy steps. When you are done, take a screenshot of your flag and post it on your blog. Here is an example:

My Flag: This flag shows the symbols of New Zealand it also shows the kiwi and the reason for that is because kiwis are now extinct and to remember them I put it into this flag so everyone around the world can remember them as well. (Made in Google Drawings)
